COIN COLLECTING INFORMATION My name is Alex Colombo. I have been collecting coins for about 4 1/2 years and I've learned A LOT in that much time. Being a numismatist (coin collector) is fun but can be a lot of hard work. Sometimes it's good to make investments, even if it means spending 10k on one coin. But in the end, something good always happens. You never know, by making investments you can sell the coin for double of what you paid. Sometimes buying a coin/coins depends on the condition of it. I've made the mistake of buying coins without seeing the condition, but sometimes it's just fun to own a coin that you think is cool. If you've start collecting coins let me make a suggestion of what you should buy first. As a starter you should start off with a plain old mint set, maybe even if it's just your birth year. Another thing that you should look out for while coin collecting are people who are trying to scam you. Some people try selling coins that are copies/counterfeit just for profit. So keep a keen eye out for fakes. And I suggest you buy a loop (magnifier). If you ever get a silver and/or gold coin, keep it. Each year, gold and silver prices rise. Sometimes silver prices lower, but it's still good to keep it if prices go up again.
